Homesmith is a qualified carpenter with 20 years of experience in high end homes. Floors and surfaces get covered before the work starts, and complex finishes are part of the day job.
There is work we turn down. Plumbing, electrical and gas go to a licensed trade rather than us having a go at them. If a defect is one a builder is still contractually on the hook for, we point it out instead of quietly fixing it, because fixing it ourselves can weaken your claim. And if a deck is past saving we will say so, rather than take the money to oil it.
If a job is too small to fill a booking and it is all you need, we may not be the best choice for it either. Send it through anyway and we will tell you straight.
Every job carries a 12 month workmanship guarantee. If something we built, hung, fixed or finished lets go inside the year, we come back and put it right.

Common questions
What is the difference between a handyman and a carpenter?
A carpenter holds a trade qualification in working timber and finishes, while a handyman is a general title with no qualification attached to it. Homesmith is both. That matters most on the jobs people assume are simple. Hanging a heavy mirror on a hebel wall and hanging one on hardwood framing are different jobs, and knowing that before drilling is the difference.
How much does a carpenter charge for small jobs in NSW?
Most trades charge by the hour, commonly $80 to $120, with a call out on each job. Homesmith charges by the block of time instead: from $420 + GST for a half day or $760 + GST for a full day, for one smith, across Byron Bay, Lennox Head, Bangalow and Ballina. You know the number before we arrive.
Is the price fixed?
The rate is fixed. A half day is $420 + GST and a full day is $760 + GST, and that does not change once you have booked. What we estimate beforehand is how much of your list fits into the time, which is why photos help. If we arrive and something is not what the photos showed, we tell you before starting it rather than after, and you decide whether it stays on the list.
What happens if you finish my list early?
We keep working. The booking is a block of our time rather than a charge per job, so if the list is done early we start on whatever else you point at. It is worth writing down the maybes when you send the list, because that is what the rest of the block goes on.
Can I book a handyman for just one small job?
You can. A half day, from $420 + GST, suits one or two jobs, and a full day, from $760 + GST, fits a longer list. Send the job through either way and we will tell you which one it needs.
Do you clean up afterwards?
Yes. Flat pack packaging is broken down and goes in our ute, floors are covered before the work starts rather than after something has been dropped, and we vacuum before we leave. Offcuts, screws and packaging all leave with us.
